Surprised that EIT still trades at a discount.  Such a tax efficient monthly distribution of nearly 12% annually.  Impressive well diversified basket of holdings.

This as always been my go to fund.

There's higher dividends available in splits.

I like both EIT and splits. But splits carry more risk and for that will not always make the threshold for distributions. For people that need the monthly income EIT is a machine machine that just never stops paying out.

The proportion depends upon one's comfort zone & their age. Since I am 5 months away from collecting my CPP & OAS, my investment proportion is 85% eit and only 3% in split funds. If I were under 40 years old, I would own more split shares. Each to their own... ;-)

Hi Gord:  I for one think your strategy is very sensible.  EIT has a much broader diversification and is considerably safer.  Eit has modest leaverage with Pref shares, while splits are "several times" higher, and therefore much higher risk and volatility in price. EIT has NEVER, interupted its distribution, and is just as tax efficient as the splits.  I love it ...more
