Thoughts

Getting the urge to take out a 100k loan with my house as collateral to buy Enbridge, dividend pays more than the interest and the capital gains seem like this is a risky no brainer. Would appreciate any input from strangers

I did that about 2 years ago. My house was paid off and I work for a bank so get a lower than normal interest rate. Borrowed 170K and bought Berkshire Hathaway stock. So far up 5 times the interest cost of the loan. The interest is also deductible as a carrying charge. Bought Enbridge with my RRSP money and am doing well with that. I would caution you against it as someone who had to learn the hard way. Don't commit more than 15% of your total portfolio (personally I'd only commit 8%). This is especially true when leveraged. As retail investors we operate with very limited info and over committing can be disastrous. Never follow advice from SH bullboards!!! Do your own due diligence and hire a professional for advice. If you can afford the loss then do whatever pleases you. Good luck

Interesting oxymoron. Don't do it.  Invest only what you can afford to lose and diversify. Nothing beats the feeling of owning your family home with no liens or mortgage.
