Yeah because if that guy would have had a gun she would be dead and the police would have had to try to apprehend a guy with a gun.

I find myself reminiscing about the good old days when random TTC violence consisted of just shoving someone on to the tracks in to the path of an oncoming train. Man, how times have changed.... Yup the goold old days when an enraged homicidal maniac or menatly disturbed person could take out one, maybe two citizens before being subdued or just  plain avoided until the authorities took him down.   Even the most determined and planning pyschopath back in the day had to sit in a clock tower with a deer rifle and rechamber a round after a shot and was usually taken out before ...more

Stiffer penalties to ALL crime in Canada need to be enacted, and serve as deterrents instead of the limp wristed "catch and release" policy Can-Er-DUH currently practices. Perhaps this country should be looking to adopt some of Saudi Arabia's punishment policies.  For example, theft is punished by the amputation of the offender's right hand, and armed or highway robbery ...more

Like we had back in the good old days?   So if they institute Saudi justice can they cut up people that speak out against them too? If so, I would be worried if I were you.  But you are not worried are you? Because a free society comes with certain risks and rewards. If you feel your risk to reward ratio is not in your favour here I am sure there is a place for you. What was ...more

Correct, they have capital punishment in Texas and it was delivered in Uvalde by a good guy with a gun. What they DO NOT have in Texas is CORPORAL punishment, that's completely different. I'm not saying Sharia law in it's entirety is the answer, just adopting some of it's highlights might be a good idea in regards to punishment of criminal behaviour. So they threaten to take their citizen's lives in Texas if they take other citizen's lives but they still take other citizen's lives. So threatening citizen's with lesser punishments for lesser crimes should work as well. The murder rate in states with the death penalty must be less than in the states without it. https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/facts-and-research/murder-rates ...more

The states with death penalties were probably more violent in the first place, that's why they enacted capital punishment. Imagine the murder rate in those states if there WASN'T any capital punishment, for sure it'd be greater than current levels. Additionally, let's not forget that when capital punishment is used, the repeat offender rate drops to zero, AND capital punishment I ...more

Silly Ol Griz - There is no "academic research" on western countries using corporal punishment, *DUH*. Instead, we continue with the same old same old, and expect a different result.  Are we insane ? Perhaps Peel Region would be a good place to try a corporal punishment pilot project. Boasting 28 robberies involving guns in just the past 30 days, clearly the approach they're currently taking isn't worth two squirts of piss : https://www.insauga.com/28-robberies-with-guns-in-the-last-30-days-in-mississauga-and-brampton/ Fiddy wrote:"Silly Ol Griz - There is no "academic ...more

As capital punishment is the ultimate form of corporal punishment it only makes sense that the deterrent would be stronger and demonstrable with its use. Every year for the past 3 decades the murder rate is lower in the states that do not have capital punishment than the ones that do.  Every single year.

Reasonably certain they didn't have firearms when that mythical book was invented, they certainly had rods though. Actually crime rates in Canada per capita are down substantially from highs in the 1990s so parents today seem to be rearing their children better than the parents of yesterday as if you believe all crime is committed by youth then the children of the 70's and 80's were commiting more crimes than the children of today.  More population makes it seem like there is more crime but ...more

Someone tell quinny that it's quite convenient what is defined as murder by certain states. Anyone watch that poor Dominican store owner Jose alba get charged with felony murder for stabbing the robber in self-defense? And yet, the robber's gf also stabby stabbed, but.. it's okay when the state DA says it's okay

Ontario has a lower murder rate per capita than every US state but one so yeah,  pretty safe.  Tell NPC that NY is one of those lower murder rate states with no death penalty. Jose Alba stabbed a man that died after they got into a fight (no robbery) and was charged with second degree murder not Felony Murder.   The courts charge people that stab other people to death.  ...more

It wasn't a street gang that shot those kids in Ulvade or shot up the parade in Highland. They have a mass shooting everyday in the USA. In fact, they have more mass shootings per year than they have days in the year. I don't see you posting those.

Your whole thread is nonsensical.   The bad guys you were talking about here were not going to be stopped by their vicitims if they had guns and they have been stopped at one victim each.  Not 19 kids and 2 adults not 45 people watching on the parade route.  Two bad guys in custody for two victims.
