I am sure ENB controls and monitors the flow/pressure/volume on both sides of the straits. If there is a loss of pressure/volume, controls and processes are into place so that the pipeline shuts off automatically. I suspect that given the clouds around L5 in the straits, they will add as many extra measures, sensors and shut off valves as needed to put MI at ease. Plus the pipeline length under ...more

Indeed.  When the vegetable oil bottle spilled on the counter last night, my first thought was, "This is EXACTLY what Whitmer is afraid of!"

OL GRIZ - Fear not, Line 5 will work itself out.  In just another 5 or 6 years, it'll all just be water ( & pipeline) under the bridge.   Let's hope in the meantime she doesn't spring a leak... That's a scenario I can buy - and the prospect of a leak if it drags on and on, though unlikely, is still irritating since it would be so unnecessary.
