Quarterly - Share Buybacks vs. Dividends

Quarterly report is fine but I am questioning going so hard on share buybacks vs. a bump in the dividend. Buybacks really don't seem to move the needle of share price and a higher dividend tends to protect the shares on the downside. I get that there are less shares to pay dividends on after buybacks but I have yet to really see a significant impact from it other than maybe Imperial Oil when they did an SIB.

Others thoughts?

I used to think the same as we all like dividends. Buy backs do get reflected in share price as ultimately EPS matters most. Also if we are in an oil bull market the best thing that can happen is buy backs, we own more of the company and share more in the profits. Appreciate your post.
