Probably a dumb question but
With motor manufacturers (eg. Tesla) switching to permanent magnet motors does that make any difference for the coil driver ?

Not a dumb question. My undertanding is that the coil driver manages the windings in the stator (not moving part) by powering/controlling the individual windings according to load so that the motor efficiency is kept at the optimum level.

Forgot to add. the permanent magnet in the appliacation (tesla) involves the rotor not the stator, so they wanted to use coild driver , it still would be applicable.
