A Bit Confused By This Statement on EXRO Website

In the fine print on the Coil Driver Page

https://www.exro.com/technology/coil-driver#technology

it reads....

*First generation Coil Driver charging feature offers 19kW (L2)input power as per J1772. V2X available on future models.

Does this mean that a vehicle equipped with Gen 1 Coil Driver still needs an on board charger (OBC) if they want to use a level 3 fast charging?

V2X capabilities is a feature on a number of EVs already. Are they delivering this through the inverter or some other on board gear?

Does the phrase "V2X available on future models" require a new hardware design or can the feature be added by way of software update?

Presumably you are referring to Level 3 AC charging only?  DC charging bypasses the onboard charger and goes directly to the battery via the BMS. So the OBC isn't involved.   Vehicles can AC charge only at the capacity of its onboard charging system.  They will limit the input power to what the charger can handle. This likely would also be the case for legacy CD vehicles ...more
