Quality Engineer (Automotive) Location: Dublin, Virginia / Mineral Wells, West Virginia Position Summary: Exro’s Quality Engineer ensures that management systems for Quality, Health & Safety, and Environment (QHSE) are developed, implemented, and maintained according to corporate, customer, and regulatory requirements, as well as best practices. This role ensures product & process issues and customer concerns are addressed, and meet all requirements. Partnering with engineering and other departments, assuring continual improvement of suppliers, products, processes, and services using quality methods. Additionally, you will support Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities from a QHSE perspective. As a Quality Engineer, you will work cross-functionally maintaining strong relationships throughout the organization. A strong communicator you provide detailed and concise data and practice diplomacy as needed. The successful candidate will own the metrics for this role and be able to work through others for the highest quality outcomes in products. Required Skills and Experience: Compliance Ensures Exro and subcontractors are operating in compliance with corporate requirements, customer requirements, and QHSE regulatory requirements. Institute and apply internal procedures and auditing systems (i.e., systems, manufacturing, product). Accountable for current and future QHSE documentation and quality equipment ensuring records are maintained in good working condition. Ownes the QHSE activities and outcomes in risk management. Continual Improvement Ensures key measurables are monitored, reported, and drive improvement efforts. Champions ongoing capability studies and sends reports to external stakeholders. Initiates corrections to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities related to product, process, and quality systems. Leads continual improvement projects such as mistake proofing, cost reduction, lean 6-sigma, etc. Nonconformities Oversees, investigates, and reports nonconformities. Manages process and product deviations, customer approval, and coordination with the Supply Chain team. Leads 8D investigations on assembly/manufacturing issues and customer complaints; correspondence to the appropriate customers, as needed. Initiates, recommends; and provides solutions through designated channels Determines outcomes of further processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming products until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected. Product Quality Planning Participates in and owns all applicable APQP activities, which include: Working with process owners in developing process flowcharts, FMEA & Control plans. Conducting Measurement System Analysis and capability studies Prototype & PPAP documentation and IMDS submissions. Joins product evaluation and development work as required, to design as much Quality Assurance into the product/process as possible. Initiates and controls inspection practices and documentation relating to material processes and workmanship to ensure that incoming material and parts, work in process, and finished goods will meet predetermined quality standards. Develop inspection routines on measuring systems, such as QC Gage, etc. Other responsibilities relevant to Quality Engineering. Required Skills and Experience: Educational Background and Experience Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is a requirement. Minimum 5 years’ experience in automotive manufacturing environment and internal audits. Practical experience in design review, machining, metal forming, stamping, and testing. Trained on SPC and able to apply statistical tools including X-bar & R charts, ANOVA, DOE, and Measurement System Analysis Experienced with Occupational Health and Safety Fundamentals. Trained on Internal auditing of management systems. Trained on Product audits. Interpersonal Skills Initiative-taking, investigative, and critical thinking skills with strong decision-making. Strong, professional communicator able to negotiate discussions with a high degree of sensitivity. Experience with customer engagement within different organizational roles. Organized and efficient able to manage a deadline-oriented environment with paramount attention to details. Strong initiative, autonomy, and teamwork orientation; be a collaborator, team leader, and active listener. Technical skills Skilled at analyzing and presenting data using quality tools such as Pareto, Histogram, Cause-and-effect diagrams, Control/Trend charts, etc. Ability to lead 8D problem-solving Investigations. Proved experience with ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, and IATF16949 standards. Familiar with Synchronous manufacturing, Metrology, Cost of Quality, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, GD&T, MSA, SPC, Value Stream Analysis, Taguchi Method, DOE, JIT, SMED, Kaizen, 6S, Lean 6-sigma, and PDCA Process. Capable of reading and interpreting product specifications in Engineering Drawings. Comfortable using measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.). Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Project, Visio, Minitab, and Digital Photo technology. Experience with and understanding of vehicle audit process within a manufacturing environment a plus.
