Kazakhstan Tax

This is what is driving up the SP of all uranium companies today. GLTA

Kazakhstan will adjust the mineral extraction tax (MET) on uranium starting January 1, 2025, Trend reports. In 2025, the tax on uranium production will increase to 9 percent. Then, beginning January 1, 2026, a differentiated approach will be implemented for calculating the MET on uranium.

Higher taxes will stem production growth, as companies will be less willing to produce more metal due to lower net margins after the tax. The tax is linked to production, and the proposal calls for 18% vs 6% now. There is also an additional 2.5% tax on uranium prices. The sector rose nicely yesterday as the move will likely benefit all other producers by restricting Kazak supply. (5iResearch)
