Dividends lol

Make no mistake GH will cut the div when the going gets tough. If the full force recession comes they will not think twice.
How much has the share buybacks cost shareholders versus keeping paying a reasonable div? A constant div would have held shareprices higher, there would be more liquidity. Share buybacks have also made our voting rights less potent, more power to insiders.
A better debt repayment program along with the div or a drip would have been way more prudent. Beware of Malx he thinks is the Pope of this board, beware of his pontifications.
Feel free to block me I don't care. I sold near 52 wk high will get back in when it gets lower or they cut the div. GH is not for the long term unless you are in the inner circle.

Alberta is fine with high oil prices, earnings will likely not take much of a hit if everyone is scared of a recession. Buybacks are a much better use of money when the price of shares is so low. You get more for buybacks than you would directly as a dividend.

I can live with a 4.6% yield, thank you GH.

As time moves on anjz661 you should also live with a significant capital gain.

Could you live with a 9.2% yield? For those paying attention to GH's debt reduction, share buybacks, 9% Deerfoot purchase and all the upgrades/renovations/expansions now completed, they can forecast that the company is positioning itself for a doubling of its current dividend. Would not be shocked if dividend doubles from $0.32/yr within 12mo. Welcome aboard. Be patient. Will be worth the wait ...more

Malx, the numbers guy... like your way of thinking  & I am very patient, so I will look  forward to that double by year end...

Kasking being GH's resident professional on all that is high stakes, my rough timeline for a dividend hike is 9-15 months from now, taking us into spring-winter 2023. A dividend hike is dependent on earnings growth, strong Alberta economy, rate of debt repayment, share buybacks and management's outlook for earnings in the second half of 2023. I'm hoping for spring 2023 but it could be ...more

It would build great investor relations to have some form of an increase annually.  This yield is a very good starting point.
Comment by malx1 on Oct 06, 2022 9:45pm
I think the company is just looking to reduce debt and grab cheap shares prior to hiking the payout to us greedy shareholders. The divided could be increased to $0.72/yr, or $0.06/mo, and hit a 80% payout ratio once debt is at $50mm and share price is $10-12. No sense increasing dividend until shares reach fair value above $10. So let the NCIB run its course putting fcf to best use, we can all ...more

Hey Anjez welcome to the smartest SH board I know of.  I'm here for yield as you are but am also for smart capital allocation. TLV would argue for share buybacks as our current smartest allocation strategy and does so clearly back some pages. In the end it is all about how it meets up with you. I bought pre covid for the then yield at a share price higher than now, but then bought ...more

All for share buy backs too.  I do like when companies commit to some form of a (evan small) annual dividend increase (as profits rise) to show their committment to the dividend and giving back to shareholders. 100% all for capital appreciation too, lol. This group is doing alot of things right, imo.

Again, increasing that divy, 100 % for it Now for a more serious subject... Malx, thinks I'm a big high roller slot player, well I finally thought I would try this slot business, put 20 bucks in a penny machine, what the hell, 3 spins & 20 bucks disappeared, so much for this high roller...
Comment by BarstoolSage on Oct 08, 2022 6:20pm
hate slot machines as black boxes so don't play them will play BJ or a red or black on the wheel as best odds I can find in a casino. The rest of the games and betting is beyond me  That the edge always favours the house is why I am here and the dividend could double do appreciate you keeping us apprised of the GH properties Kasking, even if you are nort a high roller.
