Canada Goose (GOOS TSX)
Last bought $46.55 in September 2021

Canada Goose sells luxury branded outer apparel and is best known for its iconic down-filled winter parkas. The company has traded publicly since 2017 but has operated for sixty years and is closely held with its CEO and a private equity firm owning 47 per cent of the shares.

The company has grown sales at a 22 per cent compound rate over the last 5 years as they expand geographically in Asia, Europe and the United States and as they expand their direct-to-consumer and e-commerce channels.

Recent product line extensions into footwear and lighter apparel should bolster sales and profits while reducing winter seasonality. A 19 per cent recent pullback in the shares affords an attractive entry point with the stock trading at 31x earnings vs. its longer term average of 49x.

The company itself is opportunistically and aggressively buying back its own shares and has retired over 2.5 per cent of outstanding shares over the last 6 weeks.

It's a sales growth story as they expand in the US, Europe and especially China. Sales are growing at 22% compound over the last 5 years. E-commerce maintained their sales when their stores were closed during the pandemic. Their footwear line expanson should bolster sales and reduce winter seasonality. The market misunderstood their last quarterly results and sold shares too much. Trades at a good 31x earnings vs. 40x of the industry. They've been buying back shares in the past 6 weeks. (Analysts’ price target is $56.38)

The comments include mention of 'down-filled winter parkas' and 'luxury branded'. Given that Canada Goose is bending to the will of the eco crowd, despite proper sourcing practices, and will abolish fur altogether.  So, no longer a 'luxury' offering, why charge more for its products?  I think there is real risk to the brand name.  Is it worthwhile paying a ...more

claritas - You've been expressing concerns about GOOS since May when you weren't a shareholder. Presumably you are still not a shareholder so wondering why you continue to hang around this BB with your negative views. GLTA

Actually I had made ONE post on this topic. I have had shares and sold at $57 and have been looking to buy back. I have held off on China concerns and now have added the anti-fur direction to the list of concerns. My thesis has always been that the brand would be of interest to a hedge fund. Why would you be against a point of view that is not 100% aligned with yours?  Have I bashed the ...more
