Peabody on dividend today

Greg Pardy

I have three quick ones, but probably the most obvious is in terms of the dividend. So is it fair to say Rob and Jon that all conditions for the resumption of dividend are now in place?

Rob Peabody

I think that's fair to say. I mean clearly it’s a Board decision. We've been clear all along what we were looking for the three additions to be met kind of that’s where we clearly are in great shape now, you know free cash flow where we're also generating lot's of free cash flow and then just a sense that the environment is stabilized. And I think barring what I would call unforeseen events at this point in time, I think that the Board is likely to be favorably disposed about when they actually sit down and discuss it again with the 4Q results.

Yup this is the same old shXt stirred not twice but several times....It's not going to happen, and even if it does sound like 5 cents to me. Conditions were favourable long ago. Peabody always keeps the blame game squarely on the Board. He is a lame duck CEO. No balls, no influence, no integrity. Investing in this company is not a wise move.

The tone of management on the issue of reinstating the dividend seems different to me.  Peabody expressed an opinion that all three requirements for the return of the dividend are satisfied, that the dividend may be linked to earnings (maxed at 50% - a great payout ratio on earnings), and that dividends should not be funded by debt?  I have not heard management convey this opinion ...more

You did not miss anything except for reading between the lines. The market has expected it for quite some time. I said the exact same thing you did.....that they simply have no choice but to re-instate it" and was disappointed yet again. Read the signs....it's not my decision and I may get in trouble for saying this but it is possible that the Board would be favourable to a meeting to ...more
