It's legal activity. Many Hedge Funds/institutions using computers and implementing the same trading perameters, so the piling on effect is way beyond what an human minds finds within reason. Computers have no fear when it comes to shorting, so the limits are way beyond what a human mind could find reasonable or prudent.

The problem is that there's a lot of idiots out here who put in stop losses.  Shorting hedge funds start bulk selling stock they don't own until they hit someone's stop loss and then buy the stock back and cash out for nice profits. Look at this, over 2.5m shares traded today--that's like what a $26m dump?  Insiders own over 70%, so there's no dumping there.  If ...more

Manipulation would still take money. People talk like trading is free for big money. To manipulate stock like this qould require billions and they'd risk getting caught ont he wrong side of their own manipulation. These theories are bonkers.

It's called Algorithm long/short and Energy is in the short side, among others. Big trade on, short energy/cyclicals/value....Long Low Volatility stocks/Momentum. Probably getting long in the tooth but it could run aother week or so. This time is especially vicious in with a large number of hedge funds and institutions piling into the same tarde. When they reverse out, it could be quite sharp. ...more

Husky's problems since 2015 have been numerous and well documented. We don't have to look for things we don't know to understand why the shares are trading at all times low. Eliminating the div, two costly spills, a destroyed refinery they had just bought, lack of communications with minority shareholders, lame management etc. Its no surprise that large institutional investors prefer ...more

Agreed, time to clean house and I understand your arguments about computer trading, shorting etc. but my question is this: With the financial muscle and influence that LKS has, why has he not done more to back up the share price? As I said before, he probably has friends/associates who could have bought up all the traded float (in the last year) with the loose change in their pockets but yet we ...more

Bewildering is an excellent word to describe what has happened with this company since 2015. Why LKS and his pup have allowed this happen without taking drastic action is strange indeed. This guy did not become one of the richest man in the world by sitting back and watching the train go by. The only logical explanation is he is or will be benefitting from the ongoing debacle. He has already done ...more

|I don't believe he is going to get much "on the cheap" when we look at how many assets are on sale in the Western Canada Basin. He has a paper loss of $9B in the last year and right now that's about what the entire company is worth (according to the market) so unless he knows somebody who is willing to pay unworldly prices then he has to rely on a price recovery just like the ...more

Great write up. I recently traded CVE for HSE because Husky's price now is a more compelling buy when you include dividend. The main issues surrounding HSE include : oil spill, reduced production, limited FCF and narrowing of the WCS and WTI. I think the oil spill and reduced production will be sorted out soon. WCS and WTI should go back to norm around 18-20 range where they can make more ...more
