Going private highly likely

As I mentioned weeks ago. This price plus Chinese capital. No brainer.Terrible for me as they wont pay any significant premium if any.

Why not a significant premium?  HBC privatization offer = 48% premium.  Westjet privatization offer = 68% premium.

I think there would be a pretty decent premium (75% to 100% in my opinion) as a result of the following two points noted by Greg.  1. Going Private—Majority of the Minority   Under a going private scenario, Husky’s controlling shareholders would boost their ownership to 100% via a cash offer for the minority interest. There are two key points:  In Canada, a going private ...more

@NewfNewf Precisely. And if the special committee comes up with a 'fair value' assessment that is questionable, you can exercise your right to dissent if the minority still votes to approve the takeover.

maybe you should ask your buddy Greg Pardy at RBC if LKS pay him ror RBC to start this privatization rumor as a marketing ploy of LKS?

back in the 2000's when oilsand assets were hot and heavy, these same brokerage firms were pushing husky to split up upstream and downstream and china asset, to 'get more value' in components than the whole.  Luckily husky ignore these deal pusher junkies.  Instead, husky swapped half of sunrise lease (at high value) for 50% of BP's Lima and Toledo's refineries.& ...more

After losing 80% of investment LKS unlikely to throw good money after bad. China real estate is far more profitable and possibly he can pick up distressed assets with cash on hand. Nearly all foreign oil money, and big business leaving Canada and won't be back for a generation at least, if ever. The debt field mega bubble is bound to blow. No one like to deal in a socialist, communist like ...more

Because who we are dealing with. Victor learned from his dad. They are not here to make us rich. They are here to take Canadian assets for cheap on out backs. It would have to be a thrid party for any premium to come into effect.

Please provide examples of companies where this happened like I did, not delusions.

Even by just announcing that there is an offer the share price would go up substantially.  Whether majority of the minority shareholders would accept $17 is questionable, but it is definitely a lot closer to the book value compared to the current price.   I for one would sell in a NY minute for $17 as I paid substantially less than that price, but still more than the closing price. ...more

BTW-LKS is from Hong Kong, not China.  And if he really wanted to screw the minority, he would cancel the divy to see the price collapse further, which he hasn't.

IRRELEVANT response if the savings in capital buying cheaper minority stock is greater than a year's worth of dividends.  If there's over a billion HSE shares and they cancel the divy and the SP falls $3, that's almost 3x savings to what a year of divys costs.  It's a moot point anyway because I think they're gonna offer to buy the minority shares at a large premium ...more
