I hope you dont watch it go back down to the price you paid. This etf isnt meant for holding long term. Ive learnt its best to take profits asap.

VIX at 16 and you're looking at HVI?? And how long will you hold said HVI, if VIX gets up to 20+, then 30+ for a spike, then back down to 20+ for a month, then 17+ for a few months.

I must admit you made a good call on hvi today.

Trust me when i say it is way too easy to get addicted to the volatility rush. I think low volatility will be some kind of a new norm. Because frankly, central banks will keep this charade going on for as long as they can. We may see the occasional jump like we did this week. The money will always find its way back to equities, thats the only thing left to make money on!

The volitility on hvu is wicked and unpredictable. There's money to be made if you are a gambler. Can lose it twice as fast too. Biggest bucking bronco on the exchange imo. This is why I'm just holding and waiting for the parabolic move up when everyone starts crapping their pants in the market. This is a great hedge.

you know everytime someone places an order buys and or buys an option in one of these etfs some where a computer places a corresponding hegde / calculation / bet to off set the risk you just created. if enough folks go short that it presents a signigifcant loss for the house the computers will attempt to change the outcome to bring it line with the houses objectives aka the game is fixed

If what you say is true, there could still be major events or conflicting information that reaches the market and causes situations that computers would not be able to process in their favor or would result in a no-win situation. I guess that people in HVU (right now) are betting on a big upset in the coming Sept-Oct-early Nov or we would not be here taking these risks.

I agree that it is quite a monstrosity that I'm proposing that these companies are manipulating but when you think about it it makes sense that they would have to bet against you inorder to balance the equation to mitigate the risks. With the oil market its like the etfs have become the dumping ground for bad paper as the commodity exchanges use the etfs to absorb the losses by making them the ...more

I hate to simplify things. But, basically hvu moves the opposite of the S&P/Dow. They go up hvu goes down. They go down. Hvu goes up. The less fear in the market the less the moves/swings hence the downtrend in Hvu the past months. As fear and uncertainty builds in the market the up moves in Hvu become amplified exponentially. This is my reasoning to holding hvu for the next 2-3 months. I ...more
