HVU/UVXY declined in the last month to 72% of value. VXX $20 June call declined to 60% of value. On a VIX upswing VXX calls will make at least double or triple your gains with HVU, while the erosion is only a bit worse.

It may be easier (less risky) to buy SPY puts.  You have to be perfect with your timing with VXX calls. You can’t get stuck when the SP500 is in a tight trading range.  That’s another problem with VIX ETF's.  HVU/GXX decline in January was due the tight trading range.   I’m not trying to sell gold.  lol.
