Historical volatility

A little bit of history. Acuityads shareholders have been accustomed to crazy volatile share price behaviours. If one goes back to Mar 17,2017 Acuityads price reached a high of $ 5.40 and the "bear" run began soon after. 14 months later on May 10,2018 the share price reached a low of $0.59 or a drawdown of 89.07%

Fast forward some years later.

On Feb 11th 2021, Acuityads reached an all time high of $33.08. Almost 12 months later we are sitting at a share price of $ 3.35. The share price has dropped 89.87%from its high. Pretty much the same drawdown as the one that occurred in 2017/18. Now I ask the question. Are we near the bottom?

The year end financials could be the turning point. My guess would be that much of the negative sentiment regarding Acuityads is already priced into the stock. Historically speaking they have always produced phenomenal results in Q4 and so it could repeat again.

I do believe there will still be challenges ahead. Supply chain issues and the pandemic hit North Americans hard  and we might feel this impact in Q4 as well as Q1. I'm still hopeful that the second half of the year we could see some meaningful results.

A new CFO with no tech experience IMO is a negative for the company. Illumin is a product for tier 2 type companies, most large advertisers have their own trading desk and don't need Illumin's DSP. My guess you will see a fair size acquisition like Magnite did last year - the industry is ripe for consolidation. This should also the SP. JC

I disagree that Illumin is only for tier 2 type clients.  I will use Purple Mattress again as an example. They have built a strong in-house marketing team that's responsible for a lot of video content they put out there but they still hire a bunch of ad agencies to fill the gap. Acuityads would be one of them. A large advertising company does not have programmatic experience to ...more

Thanks for the feedback but I think your knowledge of how an agency trade desk works is not quite up to par - IMO I'm a bit skepticaal of the $10M Purple Bricks deal. I'll wait to hear more announcements from Tier 1 clients to judge the success of Illumin.

You don't know me well. Your first post on the Acuityads board tells me all I need to know about your knowledge about the company.

Wouldn't larger firms that have their own trading desk want to include AT's tech in their tools?
Comment by truthis0utther3 on Jan 27, 2022 12:51pm
I'm not sure if anyone here atually knows anything substantial about the ad tech space. First, the biggest fish is TTD and they have it all. Why people here think that AT has something that TTD doesn't is beyond me. AT has illumin and TTD has Solimar plus enterprise integration andmich more that AT does not have. Second, the big fish, TTD, mostly sells through a very small number of ad ...more

I don't really understand why you are saying all this. From my understanding of the products and the demonstrations of it, AT adds value by making "traditional" tools smarter. Also, I looked at Solimar, and what they offer doesn't seem to be the same as Illumin (or AT). The information that can be provided from AT's tools seem to be better, more in depth and generate better ...more

Do you work in the ad space, sir/madam? Illumin requires white glove service. In order for brands to take it on in house it needs to be true self serve which AT has never really had (yes, they sold some self serve but it never really was, system too complicated). No tier 1 is going to kick out TTD or another competitor for a still half baked product, IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I wish them luck ...more

I don't believe you know anything about the company. You've made countless errors and you clearly have a vendetta which explains your motives. Perhaps you lost a lot of money and you've just become bitter or you are a short seller hoping to spread fear. The fact that you had to ask the question "why aren't the insiders buying in January?" is proof that you don't know ...more

Unike you, I can admit my mistakes. Yes, I forgot about blackout as the quarter ended in December. How does that invalidate anything I've said about the industry or company? Block and deflect tactics. If ANYONE is completely impervious to any thoughts outside of your own it's you. Self serve is an accounting category, it's mostly smoke and mirrors. I'm pretty sure there are no ...more

*permabull there, another mistake, I guess my analysis can be ignored now.

Alright, since you know, how many?
Comment by jcjohn36 on Jan 27, 2022 6:11pm
Excellent summary. One point you failed to mention is that DV360 is the largest DSP in the world, much bigger than TTD.
Comment by truthis0utther3 on Jan 27, 2022 6:30pm
Of course you are right. I should have at least mentioned them, I tend to think of them as native and the rest as independent 3rd party but touche! Thanks for the call out.

At the end of the day they are both DSP's - Illumin just the shinier new toy - but a DSP none the less.

Hi Torontojay , enjoy reading your posts " Historical of AT " . I myself just deeped my toe in AT on Monday bc FEAR=$VIX shot up and could still be" falling knife "  , I didn't know too much about AT's fundalmental but chart a bit oversold , $100 mil cash ( 50% in cash ) , shares easy to buy compared with ADCO or ZOMD , almost no volume . I m kind of " deep in ...more
