Unbelievable.  I have been around mining far too long, both as a career, and and investor, and have never seen a company, large or small, continually build out infrastructure ahead of time and on budget.  Its even more impressive given the regions infrastructure and logistics limitations. For anyone questioning the Chinese partners influence, this build out would be impossible at this ...more

With this news release I understand better where all that money goes from the recent share sales. $200M to further upgrade the grid explains a lot. However, 40% discount on power consumption will represent a ridiculously low C1 cash cost for some time to come. I don't know how long it will take to "eat up" $200M plus interest worth of power but I suspect it will be years. Wonder if ...more

The more disappointing part of the announcement was the power outages they have been experiencing and the need to install redundancy which I think means diesel generators. That's a cost that will not be recouped but I guess it is necessary.

While there are clearly upsides to the Chinese co-ownership it also comes with some downsides, most notably the risk that Ivanhoe and/or Kamoa somehow gets caught up in the current US/China tensions. Worst case would be if the Chinese involvement leads to sanctions which would be costly.  In additions, investors might be worried about the China exposure leading to a hair cut to the stock ...more

What sanctions?  Their complete supply chain is from Asia, and all their production goes to Asia.  Even if there was anything sanctionable, no one would enforce it anyways.  Like the completely unenforced sanctions against Russian oil (Russia's oil production is higher now than pre Ukraine)  Iran' s sanctions which are completely ignored as they increased exports 800 ...more
