Still producing

In reading the last announcement the company states...." even in the extremely unlikely event that all grid -supplied power were to completely fail, there is sufficient onsite backup generator capacity available to run kamoa-kakula's phase 1,2 and 3,excluding the smelter."
So it is my impression that production is not effected. I have contacted the company I.R. for confirmation.

Sufficient onsite backup generator capacity is 110% reliant on available diesel fuel. Therefore, production will be greatly effected...

Thats right looking ...we're still producing ...only delay is the comissioning of the smelter but the smelter is complete.  Copper breaking out ....with that  the cash will continue to flow ...we will continue to grow and debts will be low.

I wrote about this previously. I am truly curious how this works. The listed assets require well over 100MW of power that is provided by genies. Those genies at best are of 2-3 MW each. You can do the math to figure out how many you need to cover demand. The worst part is that these would need to run close to 100% capacity if there is no redundancy. In that case the fuel consumption is several ...more

Small Modular Reactors could be a viable solution to these challenges, since they are designed to be scalable and can provide a more stable and sustainable power source compared to diesel generators. They can generate between 2 and 300 megawatts of electricity per unit. This means that multiple SMR units could be combined to meet the nearly 200 MW power requirement mentioned. The Darlington New ...more

Thanks for the comment, I will look into this. I can see how one would buy a 2 MW SMR as a turnkey product however, I am fairly certain that something to the tune of 200 MW or 300 MW would have to be built on site. That is a different business altogether...

NotSoBrave, you're right... while smaller SMRs, like the 2 MW units, can be purchased as turnkey products, larger installations, such as those generating 200 MW or 300 MW, would indeed require on-site construction and a different level of planning and investment. This obviously involves more complex logistics, regulatory approvals, and infrastructure development. The scalability of SMRs is ...more

I wish, that for WF, there was a comparative study using nuclear vs hydro power. This is my logic, tell me it's missing something prohibitive: There is a certain amount (a ton) of money we are pouring into Inga II (turbine 5). Then, there is a the entire infrastructure between the turbine and the mine. Adding the associated time it takes to carry out the work plus monitor the electric line, I ...more

“…if something happens to the dam, all turbines and consequently all mines and smelters go down.” You mean a drought or something?  Practically guaranteed.   “I don't have the requisite engineering knowledge to select one or the other.” Neither do I. But I do question the practicality of trucking and storage of the amount of diesel fuel required to power mine, and of nuclear power ...more

Right on wawahunt... the Darlington SMR project is still in its early stages. The Ontario Power Generation has commenced site preparation activities and submitted a Licence to Construct application for the Darlington New Nuclear Project. The project is actually 3 years out, with construction of the SMR project due to be completed by the first of 2028, with commercial operation starting in 2029 ...more
