Liberal's excise tax on cannabis products (retail, not

medical).  A Justin spoof:   Now that the Trudeau Liberals have taxed to death the legalized cannabis industry, Justin is looking for another source of tax revenue to help offset the wild fires burning across the country from coast to coast that are releasing tons and tons of greenhouse gases in the form of CO2.   Yes, Justin needs another carbon tax.   You know, the internet highway doesn't need a license to surf on, like a drivers license for a vehicle so approaching all of the internet service providers in Canada, a tax will be levied on all citizens having access to the internet.  The internet service providers will quickly raise their rates to collect this new "surfers license".  Luckily the insurance companies have not yet stepped up to offer insurance premiums for internet surfers.   The SL or surfers license will have to be purchased similar to a driving license, fishing license, gun licenes, hunting license, etc, etc, and the license will have to be provided to your internet service provider before opening your MAC address to get onto the internet.

They were thinking of taxing the air we breathe but with all these forest fires and smoke in the air, well the quality just isn't there to justify an  air tax.

I have a suggestion for the Pentagon.  Instead of harassing the global population why don't you put your military assets to work and help Justin justify an air tax.

The air quality here was pretty bad yesterday and I found some time for the spoof.   But seriously, shhhhhh.....don't give the Liberals any ideas about the surfer tax.

A smart government would have given a new starting industry a five year excise tax break until they got established and turned a profit.

We won't mention the over $10 billion Federal investment/tax break an auto maker got to keep building that battery plant in Ontario.

I'm sorry if that hurt your feelings, you have pride, so it won't. If companies cannot survive in an environment with taxes, they should not exist. The truth is, a lot of companies are poorly managed and there are too many of them. I have perceived money lost, and I have only myself to blame. They don't need to attract any players, they jumped right in. I would not spit on some help ...more

LABS price is being manipulated, just a reminder, and I personally think many investors still view LABS with the stigma of being a 'pot stock'.   I agree, many are poorly managed and everybody jumped in chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.   It's not a new cycle in the business world.  The retail cannabis industry is going through the painful ...more

bloody feds set the excise tax at $1.00/gram when pot was selling for $10.00/gram (10%). Now pot sells for $3/gm making excise tax 33%. Govt. too damn dumb to realize this is helping the illicit pot market thrive.

Agreed!..the Rec market in Canada is being taxed to bankruptcies by the liberals...thankfully we have a growing international market presence. Just this year the German public pharmacare insurer who covers all prescription costs for the people agreed to cover Marijuana and CBD scripts...this was under appreciated by investors and Labs is a full offering market participant with the EU GMP facility ...more

Agree, management is only issuing a p.r. when it has to legally and is staying very quiet on everything else as you mentioned, the Avicanna deal, Aurora website listing.   Alleyes...here this out....is this a very bullish indicator that management is staying so quiet....management cannot predict their financial future unless they already know it.   The point being, if LABS ever ...more

Instead of saying we can't compete with the illicit market because of the taxes, I would frame it like this : You cannot perform the basic function of government. We should have a tax break because you can't enforce your laws. 5 years after the legalization, 40 % of the market is still illicit.  I don't think a forum post  or AI made video on YouTube have the power to ...more

They are not publishing any details because they don't think it is significant. Non-significant news won't make the share price move. Important news is the only thing that will at this point.

Companies should get together and sue the government. It might be the only language they understand. Duty of Care: The government has a duty of care to effectively implement and enforce the Cannabis Act, which includes ensuring the proper regulation and control of cannabis production, distribution, and sales. Despite the legalization of cannabis, the persistence of a significant black market ...more

Very interesting perspective on the cannabis market in Canada. Nicely done. Thanks for a different viewpoint. Made for an enjobable read.

The gov would probably respond will something like this:  https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/drugs-medication/cannabis/laws-regulations/cannabis-act-legislative-review.html The industry could argue they knew the act would not be perfect, and it was not reasonable to think the illicit market would disappear instantly. They have decades of experience and knowledge about ...more

If someone can provide info on new law enforcement investments from gov fighting illegal cannabis traffic, I would be very happy.   Federal vs Provincial Cut The federal government originally proposed that the excise tax would be split 50 / 50 with the participating provinces but the December 2017 agreement with the provinces increased the provincial share to 75 percent. The federal ...more

Basically the argument his this: Your act was meant to protect the health and safety of Canadians, to keep cannabis out of the hands of children and youth, and profits out of the hands of criminals and organized crime. You knew there would be problems associated with the new law and planned a panel to address them. You proactively acted to used tax dollar to protect the ...more
