Chinese vanadium prices retreat on weak downstream demand

Vanadium prices in China fell last week due to weak downstream demand, partly reversing the sharp gains recorded in the prior week.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for vanadium pentoxide 98% V2O5 min, exw China was 120,000-122,000 yuan ($18,816-19,130) per tonne on Thursday December 2, down by 5,000-6,000 yuan per tonne (4.3%) from 125,000-128,000 yuan per tonne on November 25.

Prior to this, the price had risen by 11% from 113,000-115,000 yuan per tonne on November 18.

Chinese vanadium nitrogen prices also declined last week following a steep increase in the preceding week.
