Very. Not that it might have been the worst kept "secret" half way across the world. How did I miss the original article they reference.

it's behind a paywall ..... Masisi to ditch De Beers for Lucara and HB Antwerp? Sunday Standard Reporter -  31st October 2022 Botswana is expected to divert most of its large diamonds from De Beers and sell them through the Okavango Diamond Company (ODC) to the... Clearly the market paid no attention to the news as sp did nothing on Tues/Wed, maybe b/c of Q3 release.

It might be interesting if true but it has been completely denied

Maybe we should listen out for the cockerel to crow at least 3 times before dawn?

Just some made up story , eira gave it no credence at the end of the conference call and though Clara got a mention it was a very small mention , it appears to me the 5 year plan is about 4 years behind schedule. Maybe Clara will take off but don't hold your breath . It's all about the underground!,!!

If it's a made-up story, the made-up part would be the "ditch deBeers" bit. That's not going to happen. The part that's important to us is how Debswana's diamonds are sold, and apparently an agreement between deBeers and the govt (co-owners of Debswana) has got bogged down in negotiations. Here's a report from April that might shed more light:- https://www ...more

A negotiating ploy to put a bit of pressure on debeers. It doesn't do lucaras profile any harm with the Botswana government going forward

More than that, think about where the govt might prefer to sell the stones that aren't big enough for the likes of HB but are bigger than run of mine? (say the 1 to 10.8ct good quality stones) Perhaps they'd like to run a trial with suitable ODC stones on Clara?

Whatever is going on or not going on there is no negative for Lucara
Comment by KingFox on Nov 03, 2022 4:02pm
have to assume that the gov't wants to sell these via CLARA, and of course DeBeers is balking, at least until they make some deal re: CLARA. Now where the hang up is can be discussed. I assume its with the +10.8 cts stones i.e. the more valuable ones, where the gov't wants to enter into a Lucara/HB type of partnership and looking to up there 25% ODC control to at least 50% maybe more given ...more

I can't see any tie-up for big stones between Debswana and the likes of HB having any negative impact on Lucara because those stones are already being sold somewhere. It's not like there will be a sudden input of big stones to the market - they are already there. However, if Clara can get ODC's 1ct - 10.8ct high quality stones then I see how Lucara can envision the growth they depict ...more
