MEG a Take Out Target - How Much $$?

Analyst Phil Skolnick of Eight Capital said in a research note Friday that MEG "just keeps getting better operationally" while its balance sheet keeps getting cleaner.

"We believe this will put MEG further in focus from an M&A perspective, especially given the positive macro fundamentals on oil," Skolnick said.

MEG has a rather sizeable 5.9B tax pool, which would make them quite attractive from a M&A. I'd rather recognize some value and push that NCIB through before a buyout (which is speculative and premature to talk about if it even ever happens). Nuttall mentioned today in passing as a response to 'Does he expect privatization or M&A" and his answer sounded like ~he doesn't ...more

Listening to the interview on BNN again. Eric says he doesn't expect a lot of M&A except for the companies that can offer tax relief to the major players. The big boys will be looking for smaller companies that come with tax benefits. We'll see what happens to MEG, ATB and CJ later in the year.
