West Coast express story.

I should point out, the non vote shares have similar ownership rights, and really should not have such a wide discount. $7 vs $5.60
Not that 30 or 40 million is not material, but, the anticipated loss in the tax case will not derail this company. With that bad pun, a story on rail service out to Mission.

TransLink announces restored West Coast Express service

Back to five trains per day, engines being refurbished

TransLink joined federal and provincial politicians to announce an expansion of the West Coast Express back to pre-COVID service levels on Friday, June 16.

In a press conference at Waterfront Station in Vancouver TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn announced the fleet of West Coast Express engines will be refurbished, and the transit authority rolled up the first of the fixed-up trains to serve as a backdrop.

Quinn announced that effective this Monday, June 19, the transit authority will restore WC Express Service to five trains per day for the first time in three years.

He noted that last month saw 116,000 boardings, which was the highest since the pandemic, and a 55 per cent increase from May of 2022.

The fleet refurbishing will reduce engine emissions by up to 50 per cent, and expand their lifespan by up to 15 years.

MLA Bob D’Eith explained he was at the announcement because of his personal affinity for the service.

“I also live in Maple Ridge and I represent Maple Ridge and Mission. And West Coast Express has been such an important part, since 1995, of our community. In fact, I moved out to Maple Ridge because I was able to take the West Coast Express.”

He noted the ongoing refurbishment project supported by provincial and federal governments.

“We want to provide cleaner transit options, and lower emissions,” said D’Eith, “and people need public transit that is affordable and convenient, so they can leave their cars at home.”

Pitt Meadows Mayor Nicole MacDonald lauded West Coast Express as a reliable alternative to driving, providing a “stress-free, safe commute,” and “incredible views.”

“It’s become an integral part of life in the City of Pitt Meadows, and an essential part of life for many commuters in my community,” said MacDonald. “I arguably say it’s the best way to travel down to the downtown core.”

The Member of Parliament for Vancouver Centre Hedy Fry attended on behalf of the federal government.
