RE:RE:Wonder .....

RE:RE:Wonder .....I think that if we have the talent to design the product, we surely can built it here, in Canada, or the USA. I also think the biggest obstacle is greed, those that use the "chips" in their product look at pennies during the manufacturing process.

We could do it alright but products would cost a bit more.Even the 5 to 7 year time line would prevent us from getting into this situation in the future.

I find it interesting that manufactureres don't have a "second source" for these thing. Car companies have a "second soursce" for most components so that their produxtion doesn't get hurt in the event of a problem at their "primary source" supplier.

I think that a "chip manufacturing facility" takes specialized construction techniques, and then specialized operational skills that we may not have in abundant supply in Canada or the USA.

I agree that it would be very worthwhile to develop those techniques and skills. If we started planning in Canada then we might have a facility in 5 to 7 years.  I think that it is that difficult.  Then there's the cost.

The cost. That comment of mine brings to mind the extremely high cost that we have encountered in NA and Europe because most of those facilities are in China, Tiawan and Japan.  Just think of the mahem in which we may find ourselves if China takes over Taiwan.

So, your comments are well taken. I think that we should develop that expertise in Canada.  We need willpower, and long term lucrative contracts lined up by private NA companies with the foresight to know how important security of supply really is. If we had those then I am sure that we could do it, and that it would be a very good idea.

As it is, we develop chip technology in Canada and outsource the manufaturing to China, and you can guess how secure that technology is.
