In this context, Qubec and Ottawa will finance half of a project to build a plant for the production of cathode materials (an essential part of batteries) in Bcancour, for an amount of $300 million.

Also in an interview Friday, Mr. Fitzgibbon suggested that some financial agreements between the government and the private sector, to develop this industrial sector, could be subject to less strict conditions, in order to attract big names and launch this sector.

The world is fighting to have these projects, the minister said.
