Down 10% on Zero Volume

Why?

is it just me or does anyone else notice this thing seems to often trade in the opposite direction of the market?  Often it surges when oil is weak and weakens when oil strengthens?  Don't get it. I bought more today....

I HAVE NOT REALLY NOTICED THAT TRUMP, BUT THIS MOVES BIG EITHER WAY DUE TO SMALL FLOAT. NO IDEA WHY DOWN TODAY BUT I BOUGHT MORE TOO AT 3.44 TO TAKE ADVANATGE.

I think you're right about the float as a big chunk is held by private equity.  I've noticed it often holds up really well when oil is tanking and vice versa.  Though today is really extreme - down 10% on a relatively good  (but choppy) day.  I wonder about a dividend cut but they probably don't need to cut due to their impressive hedge book (60% of their production ...more

This thing was weak from the get go, even when oil was up and all the other oils were up.  I tried to find a reason but couldn't find anything.  One has to wonder if something is up. Are they about to acquire something or are they about to be acquired. Keep the price down and make the 'premium' paid look better.  The trading has been extremely odd today.

I too have noticed that NBZ seemd to trade contrary to the market or at least holds up well - that's why i bought a bunch more today too - just a little too early given the big drop. I suspect NBZ will jump up again unexpectantly tomorrow as the price of oil keeps dropping.

actually come to think about it, nbz does seem less correlated to daily oil movements than many other oil stocks I follow ( likely due to strong hegdes) that said it rose from 2.7 to 4 when oil rose from 26 to 34 so in bigger time frame it is correlated. and yes trump , much of float is tied up with a few big investors. I know moodys cut their bonds yesterday so perhaps that is why it is down, but ...more

slacker, good to see you have survived this brutal oil crash. what are your thoughts (same with you trump) now and how are you playing it? I see oil at 45-50 by year end and own cardinal and whitecap ( more torque than the suncors, cnqs, ect) assuming oil gets to 45-50 and of course I own nbz and have a smaller position in BTE ( a higher risk play) although I see BTE at $7-8 with oil at 45-50 but ...more

I have a similar view.  And I don't think we need a production cut for prices to rebound.  My feeling is that with all these countries pumping full out and neglecting spending, the current pace is unsustainable.  I see production falling everywhere (other than Iran).  Demand is key, it must hold up, to me that is the potential bogeyman.  Of course a production cut ...more

Moodys downgraded this stock and others such as Meg.. they had talked about downgrading these stocks a few days ago and they DID!!!
Comment by patenright111 on Feb 04, 2016 8:06pm
Tanyo, moodys did not downgrade the stock, it was the debt
Comment by tanyao on Feb 04, 2016 9:40pm
what can I say.....it went down.
Comment by patenright111 on Feb 04, 2016 8:03pm
thanks trump, great minds think a like. yes demand needs to hold up and I think it will. glad to see you are also holding much of what I am !
Comment by patenright111 on Feb 04, 2016 8:05pm
plus we both own LIQ too , that is hugely undervalued. Moodys , please, they are useless, I doubt stock is down because Moodys downgraded debt one notch
