PLAINVIEW, NY--(Marketwired - September 09, 2015) - NeuLion, Inc. (TSX: NLN), a leading technology product and service provider specializing in the broadcasting, distribution and monetization of live and on-demand digital video content to Internet-enabled devices, today announced the availability of its sixth generation NeuLion® Digital Platform.
The sixth generation of the NeuLion Digital Platform offers content owners end-to-end delivery of live and on-demand video in HD and Ultra HD/4K video formats; speeds their time to market with new OTT services; lowers their transport costs; and creates new personalized digital experiences for their viewers, all while creating potential new sources of revenue for them.
NeuLion Digital Platform partners include the MLS, NFL, NBA, UFC, World Surf League, Univision Deportes, Sport TV, Sundance Now, and gMovies. These partners, and many others, have licensed the NeuLion Digital Platform to ensure delivery of the highest quality live and on-demand video and rely on NeuLion services to create compelling viewer experiences that drive their OTT and TV Everywhere revenue.
"The sixth generation of the NeuLion® Digital Platform marks an important milestone in the evolution of OTT as consumers know it today," said NeuLion CEO Dr. Kanaan Jemili. "As an industry leader trusted by some of the biggest brands in sports and entertainment, we continue to innovate and drive higher quality experiences for our partners. With this version, we are excited to be able to deliver live 4K personalized entertainment to consumers around the globe."
"We did our first 4K live stream of an NBA game earlier this year with great results," said Jamie Hindhaugh, Chief Operating Officer, BT Sport.
Major enhancements to the Platform include:
-HEVC live encoding that is up to 60 percent faster than open source alternatives and reduces transport costs for content rights holders
-Technology and services that offer complete work flow support from content ingestion, encoding, management, monetization, real-time QoS and app development for AVC, HLS, and HEVC adaptive video formats delivered in 1080p/60 and 4K/60
-Implementation of the MainConcept SDK for HEVC 4K/60 streaming
-Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH) support that can seamlessly adapt to changing network conditions and provide high quality playback on consumer electronics devices
-Live Server-Side Advertising Insertion and integration with Freewheel and Google DoubleClick; NeuLion stitches advertising into the original content in order to deliver a complete video stream with correct advertising to give viewers an uninterrupted stream on multiple devices
-Multi-channel and multi-game viewing options including picture-in-picture and quad view on mobile and tablet
-Enriched personalization and recommendation features based on viewer preferences and viewing behavior. By selecting their favorite leagues and teams, the NeuLion Digital Platform recommendation engine automatically curates video and suggests channels relevant to each viewer to build long-term engagement
"Underscoring our commitment to building a robust HD and Ultra HD 4K ecosystem, the sixth generation of the NeuLion® Digital Platform helps to reduce complexities and costs for OTT service providers," said NeuLion Executive Vice President Chris Wagner. "This version leverages technology we now have as a result of our acquisition of DivX just eight months ago. Now the latest NeuLion Digital Platform-powered services, combined with our DivX® Streaming technology licensed to the world's largest consumer electronics manufacturers, will deliver 1080p60 and 4Kp60 live streaming compatible with new set-top boxes and TVs."
"We are excited to continue to move our production to Ultra HD 4K for live events," said Paul Speaker, CEO of World Surf League. "NeuLion is extremely important in helping us deliver high quality digital experiences for our fans."
