Within the past year, leading US OTT services saw an increase in subscribers, Netflix holding the top spot. According to Parks Associates, based on subscriber count excluding transactional or ad-based services, the research company updated the top list for OTT video services. The top 10 ranking on that list are:
-
Netflix
-
AmV
-
WWE Network
-
Sling TV
-
HBO Now
-
Crunchyroll
-
Showtime
-
CBS All Access
Parks Associates, Senior Director of Research, Brett Sappington states that the top five OTT providers has remained fairly consistent, mainly by growing massive subscriber bases while maintaining current subscribers. Services like Showtime and CBS All Access have continued making strides of growth in the space, using recognized brands like Homeland and Ray Donovan towards the push.
OTT continues its dominance, changing the viewing habits and making it easier than ever for consumer to watch the content they want. Earlier Parks research has shown that as of Q3 2016, nearly 63% of US broadband households subscribe to an OTT video service, up 57% since 2015. Reflected in the research, there was a clear shift viewing of OTT on television sets- smart TVs in particular. Users watch OTT services on TV screens on average 17-20 days per month, rather than on PC, smartphones or tablets. It is an exciting time for OTT services and we at NeuLion are excited to see these numbers continue to increase year-over-year!
