H.Q. move and Crawley says Bye Bye

Northland Power, Canada’s first independent power producer and a leading sustainable energy provider, has expanded its Toronto office into a new multi-floor facility, creating a more functional and flexible workspace. The expansion not only meets the company's needs but also aligns with sustainable growth, meeting LEED requirements.

Mike Crawley • 3rd+ Global Public Company Chief Executive Officer / Power Generation and Development

With the six month transition period over, I have now completed my final day at Northland Power. It has been a joy to work with such a talented team for over nine years including the past six as President & CEO. As the company's original revenue contacts expired, we expanded globally to source new growth establishing Northland as a leader in offshore wind and, more recently, grid-scale battery storage. All told those investments will generate approximately C$1.2B in annual EBITDA including C$600M from projects currently under construction. Most of these revenue streams will extend well into the 2040s. Perhaps most importantly, we created a robust platform for further growth with three business units now established across onshore renewables, offshore wind and efficient natural gas, each with deep asset management, project origination and project execution capabilities - and strong leaders.

Now looking forward, demand for electricity is forecast to grow in many countries at levels not seen in decades driven by data center growth, broad-based electrification, manufacturing expansion and other factors.

Will power generation and transmission constrain or enable economic growth?

After almost 20 years of flat demand growth, can policy makers, system planners, regulators, utilities and developers adapt to a very different environment?

Certainly the solutions will need to be more targeted and complex with greater consideration for grid reliability and load requirements. Collaboration across the sector will be more important than ever.

If our sector was largely focused on switching to lower carbon generation over the last 20 years, it appears the next 20 years will also now be about electricity as an economic growth driver.

Challenges, of course, bring opportunities for all those willing to step up.
