Cement Industry Innovation

Need a lot of renewable energy to power plants by electricity and not natural gas. Cement manufacturing accounts for 7% of global carbon emissions. From a Gov't Canada publication-

The rise of protectionism in key markets such as the U.S. as manifested through Buy America demonstrates a U.S. commitment to an "America first" investment policy on their domestic infrastructure. Although cement is currently exempt from Buy America, ongoing monitoring and advocacy will be necessary to preserve access to the U.S. market.

The U.S typically relies on a large amount of Canadian cement. Globally, it imports more than 16 million tonnes of cement annually, with nearly 6 million tonnes (or 35%) of that being imported from Canada. In 2021, both the Governments of Canada and the U.S. announced that they will both introduce buy clean strategies. Alignment of these approaches could assist in further market penetration in the U.S. as well as defend what Canada is already exporting.
