To our US posters, I would hope that the US would recognize the New Republic of Alberta when we separate from Canada to escape a corrupt government. I empathize with the Donbass region and their happiness at being recognized by Russia. If you don't have that support, you are effectively being held captive by he evil government you want to escape.

Hard to say how this all will go down...dow futures were down 500 last i looked. So far the Russia news has moved natural gas the most. Oil went up to 94 on a holiday as expected but is down to 1 dollar so far in over night to 93 range. NG moved up 6 percent today and it obviously due to a pipeline shipping Russian Gas goes through Ukriane and risk to something happening. So far the sanctions

An overlooked point on the world stage is I think China is so much harder to sanction if they caused problems then Russia. China is building an economy for the future while Russia has dinosuar high carbon economy. China has 5 major solar cell plants....they have so much of the EV battery materials....actually more criticial to the world.  They even manufacture mirco chips. The olympics was

Putin is trying to get something.    Its unclear what that is. This is a chess game, and Putin is in control of the board.    I strongly doubt that he wants a military conflict with anyone who can fight back. Declaring the breakaway states independant, and then signing deals for military bases in those states is a nice chess move.   Assisting those

Looks like Putin just got the Nord 2 pipeline cancelled to Germany..... And look at Boris Johnson comments.... Could very easily backfire in Putins face and he needs customers to see NG too....
