Why not Orezone?

"ANALYSTS' RECOMMENDATION
• IAMGOLD Corp: National Bank of Canada raises target price to C$8.5 from C$7, assessing M&A value potential for the company's assets such as Ct and Essakane amid rising acquisition interest."

Why not Orezone?  Essakane is an older, largely depleted mine with huge security challenges.

IAMGOLD is up 100% over 6 months, Newmont is up over 50%, other small PM mining companies are up at least 20%. Orezone is flat.

Maybe I'm confused.  I always thought a company with a low valuation (vs assets) is what attracts takeover offers, not the opposite.  And of course the ones taking over are free to put in their own management if they see value in the assets.

As long as their is growth potential that is true.  The reason Orezone is not appreciating in value is that the growth is limited to the one project.  There is virtually no upside to the resource as they have no other exploration properties.  As a mine it is a very attractive operation, as a company it is a very unattractive target.

What are you talking about? A cash cow "is a cash cow "!!!! They have miles of land to increase their holdings in ounces!!! Take over is the plan l believe from Paddy's point of view somewhere back in time when they were explaining the set-up ! Great piece of property ! Now the government is getting its act together against insurgents! Our Management team has to do the same in run ...more

But it will not attract a premium when there is only one mine and limitation on the resource upside is all I am saying.  If there is someone out there looking for a mine in West Africa this is a beauty.  Most companies are not looking for just an operating mine, they want a potential for growth beyond making inferred into indicated.

not sure you understand this property and its potential and the guy expecting the PR lady to solve his problems is out to lunch

The biggest single issue here, and it is a huge one,  is the mine location being Burkina Faso.  When somebody buys any asset,  they want to be certain its theirs and this is not at all the case with Ore Zone.  Any half baked moron can ride onto the property at any time, guns ablazing and clean house taking the property.  I know this from personal experience.  Friends ...more

I agree, BF is the major risk or ORE would have been acquired by a midsized miner.  That being said, in W. Africa, there have been relatively few expropriations, altho there is the real risk for the govt wanting more if the mine is (highly) profitable.  (But that happens everywhere in the developing world).  My sense is ORE will become a more profitable mine, altho only trade at a ...more

Agreed.  If they are not going to diversify so the stock price can appreciate then they need to start paying a dividend. This would provide at least some return on investment for shareholders.

Your dreaming No dividend until expansion complete

Semafo was bought out by Endeavour a few years back and this was after a convoy of workers was attacked and several were killed by islamist terrorists, and their two mines are in full operation today.
