EMIPA advances in important investment for new metallurgical project in Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ / December 16, 2021 / 08:00

(December 2021) Joaqun Zenteno, General Manager of Empresa Minera Paititi (EMIPA), the main metallurgical operation in eastern Bolivia, announced the successful completion of the tests of the so-called Oxides Project, which will involve a significant investment in a new metallurgical project in the country , located in the Santa Cruz municipality of San Jos de Chiquitos.

This is an oxide processing project, which involves an investment of Bs 340 million in the coming years, in addition to the Bs 28 million already invested in studies and research, since “Bolivia requires more than ever investments to reactivate its economy , one of whose pillars is mining / metallurgy, which has been the main source of income for the country in 2021, ”Zenteno said.

Over the last 19 years, EMIPA has generated more than 70% of the income of the Santa Cruz department from royalties, that is, Bs 360 million, in addition to another Bs 47 million for the municipality of San Jos. Likewise, it has generated Bs 362 million in taxes for the national treasury and Bs 31 million in mining patents for development and exploration.

EMIPA's metallurgical complex in San Jos is one of the most complete in the country, built under the most demanding environmental technology canons, with an investment in infrastructure and heavy equipment of Bs 475 million.

EMIPA's generation of direct sources of employment reached 253 people and kept more than 400 contractors in activity simultaneously, until the end of its previous production cycle in November 2019, after having completed the exploitation of the Don underground mine. Mario, the Don Mario open pit mine and the Cerro Flix and Las Tojas deposits.

“All non-renewable natural resource exploitation activities have life cycles determined by the potential and profitability of the deposits. In the case of EMIPA, our first operating cycle was completed at the end of 2019, and now we are preparing the Oxides Project with new investments and cutting-edge technologies, ”Zenteno indicated.

“The Oxides Project will mean the reactivation of the EMIPA metallurgical complex, generating new highly qualified jobs, since it is also planned that its new labor structure is distributed equitably by gender, that is, 50% of the new jobs correspond to female personnel. ”Said Joaqun Zenteno.

"This new project will generate more royalties for Santa Cruz and San Jos, as well as more taxes for Bolivia," concluded the General Manager of EMIPA, the main metallurgical operation in eastern Bolivia since 1992 and a subsidiary of the ORVANA corporation, based in Canada and that It is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Jumpenin, Interesting article on EMIPA.  Maybe the OSP project schedule will be advanced from the current timeline in management's presentation. The investment case for Orvana is crystal clear. The Don Mario OSP is a 110,000 gold equivalent ounce producer for 3 years and that is equivalent to Fortuna Silver’s Lindero mine producing for 3 years, except that Orvana doesn’t need to build ...more
