A useful Global Perspective on energy and emissions

In the case of EV planning there are significant differences between the published strategies and timelines of Toyota  compared to many of the other transport vehicle manufacturers. Toyota seem to be less convinced that 2030 or 2035 are reasonable target dates for no longer selling Oil or Gas based power units.

Important global perspective (if with some vested interest, but with credible facts) on current world-wide emission sourcesenergy generation challenges, "clean energy" mining needs and full-cycle issues, etc., are addressed in an interesting facts-based manner in a 26 minute video

THE BIG EV LIE. Why They Won't Save the Planet & All About Dirty Electricity | TheCarGuys.tv - YouTube

referenced by Oldnagger recently on another company Stockhouse BB.

This is a very complex topic and certainly using "dirty electricity" to fuel EV growth is a critical issue amongst many challenging obstacles, as governments and individuals accept responsibility to respond with climate-change-stewadship actions to protect our planet for future generations,

Peace,
ElJ

Interesting point when one considers efficieny at the vehicle level , but what happens when one compares overall efficiencies from the starting point of the energy creation to its ultimate usage ?  For EV's we need consider the efficiency of whatever process that created the electricity and the storage and transmission losses in the electrical grid. For ICE vehicles most of us inderstand ...more

It will be interesting what happens in 2030 when the UK bans sales of new ICE cars, while currently has troble meeting their electricity needs. If I were a Brit, I would be buing new ICE care in the couple of years leading up to 2030, as I believe they will be selling at a premium after the ban. Politicians don't seem to have a handle on reality.

Yes Toyota has lagged behind on developing EVs, but they deserve some credit I think for coming out with the Prius way back in 1997

The whole subject of efficiency is an interesting one, especially when looking at the entire lifecycle of products including materials and energy used to produce and also recycling costs.  There often isn't always a lot of consideration given to how something is going to be used - for example the efficiency of an EV looks a lot better if I charge it and then drive it continuously until it ...more

I just want to mention that this whole subject has become very interesting. ( and worthwhile) yet very complex. I would like to suggest that a good starting point for many may be the BP statistical review of world energy for 2021 . the link is here . Happy hunting !! https://www.bp.com/content/dam/bp/business-sites/en/global/corporate/pdfs/energy-economics/statistical-review/bp-stats-review-2021 ...more

Yasch22,                  You are a much respected contributor to Stockhouse BB and I am priviledge to read and ponder your analysis and opinions. I agree with some of your observations below but, as can be natural in good faith discussion, I have significant concern on one particular issue("dirty energy"):  "Toyota has been the ...more

Thanks EIJ for better expressing my thoughts, perhaps you could also help me to express my thoughts  based on the graph on page 12 of Peyto's latest presentation. The graph indicates the only significant contribution that any nation has made to counter the humongous growth in CO2 emissions in Asia. That nation is the USA and its contribution has for the most part been achieved by vastly ...more

Oldnagger,                     In response to your request about  "thoughts  based on the graph on page 12 of Peyto's latest (AGM) presentation, I offer the following brief interpretation comments: Note(Aside): This BB is, IMHO, not an appropriate forum to wrestle with the many huge issues involved in Climate Change actions or ...more

Thanks for your very valuable input. To keep things focused on Peyto , more specifically , I will return to the starting point of this discussion. That to me must mean data and the interpretation of that data. Actually, it seems the data is fairly straight forward but as you and others have demonstated the interpretation is anything but straight forward. Nevertheless, Yasch gave me a jolt and for ...more

A world that is going to place its entire land transportation system on essentially wind and solar systems transmitting energy to EV s is an absurdity in my view. Directionally EV s are proving themselves for people who can afford to work around their inconveniences. Many people cannot, they live in apartment buildings and park wherever they can find a spot. Will the world be over-run with ...more
