Though communication could improve...

Some interesting thoughts from Carbonbull of late.

I agree that communication from management could improve. For instance, if you promise something (eg: div increase), then either fulfill your promise or explain clearly why you haven't.

Having said that, I don't know how much management should say about unrest in Peru or anywhere in latin America unless it has a clear, material impact on the company's operations/prospects. Any shareholder who does not realize the challenges/risks of doing business in that part of the world, must have inherited the money they're investing with, because they sure didn't earn it through careful due diligence.

Just look at where these countries stand in the international ranking of corruption indices. It is risky for any company, hence the discount in share price. I would love to know whether Polaris has been targeted for extortion or whether they have to pay mercenaries for protection at some facilites, but I wouldn't expect that to be discussed 'on the record'.

I simply hope that management's track record of boring, but consistent cash flow and dividends continues, and when possible, increases. In the meantime, I'm loving the income and enthusiastic about long term potential. By all means, though, let's hold management accountable for their promises.

Regards to all

A thoughtful and balanced post , hope this is a reflection of the general shareholder base, this company needs a pivotal instituional shareholder. with the CEO street credibility I would of thought this would of been forthcoming. Coremarkseems to be the only house that cares, my problem is buying this dividend payer in a risky juristiction against owning GEI at nearly double the dividend , i know ...more

Sorry forgot to convert usd dividend to cad$ for PIF , dividend starting to look halfway decent given all the inputs without a increase in dividend this stock still has some downside, probably limited to low double digits say someplace in the 11+ range

I'm not familiar with Gibson, so I read a bit about it. Not an area I generally follow (oil), but I find it interesting that GEI's div is stable and increasing, yet SP does not follow. Unusually high yiled is typically a red flag indicating doubt of management's ability to maintain the div, but analysts seem to think it is safe, albeit earnings may be flat for a few years. Curious

a couple of catalyst's in coming year , the new pipeline will drive the need for more tankage, Suncor consolidating the industry also a net positive for GEI, expect$100 to $200 m of capital investment each year slow but steady growth. Marketing arm smart enough to get net long WCS which will get repriced to the + , once in a generation trade ,, can play it by getting long SU.
