Much Happier Seeing These Purchases Than Share Buybacks

Buy quality assets that are acretive immediately, increase dividend, pay down debt. All good uses of cash that far exceed what buybacks produce. Buybacks are the refuge of poor boards and lousy senior managment who can't come up with better ideas for deploying the available capaital.

I agree and a certain amount of debt is actually quite positive in an environment where cash is melting like an ice cube because of all the excess money printing that's causing the debasement of the dollar. With inflation in excess of 7%... one should try and borrow as much of the debasing dollars and invest in appreciating assets. The FEDs will never be able to increase interest rates high ...more

Personally I'm not against stock buy backs when they are balanced and moderate.  Reason is when a company does a private placement to fund an acquisition, they are paying 6% forever unless they have a buy back program.  And we know that PPL has some big expansion plans coming up that will cost billions.  It is likely they will turn the DRIP back on provide ongoing financing ...more
