Quick question about transferring from TFSA to RRSP

Quick question. I am wanting to transfer a few thousand shares of my PYR from my TFSA into my SDRSP account.  Is there a way to transfer these securities without having to sell my shares, and transfer cash between accounts? The ask/bid can be thin and I don't have L2 and would prefer not to sell the shares and probably lose 5% to the spread. It looks like TD does not allow this securities transfer? Do I wait till a high volume day and have a broker do this? Do I need to wait for the securities to clear and thus have to wait 3 days?

I Googled your question, and it came back saying that you can't do a transfer from a TFSA to an RRSP. You cannot transfer investments directly between TFSAs and RRSPs but you can sell for cash in one and repurchase them in another. Just be sure you have the contribution room in your RRSP, which is usually posted in your latest filing statement from the Canada

You have your reasons for wanting to move your money to an RRSP, of course.  But here's a thought, in case it might help.  You CAN transfer cash or securities from one TFSA to another TFSA.  So if it could make a difference for you, you could open a TFSA at another financial institution and do the transfer.  I have done this myself.  Of course, if you need to do the

If you cash in your TFSA this year then January 2nd you can add the same amount of  money back into TFSA at any time next year on top of your yealy contribution level.

It is the main reason why I want to make the transfer.  I have zero contribution room in my TFSA but a huge contribution room in my SDRSP.  Thanks for all your replies,  I will set up an appointment to talk to an investment advisor so I can get this done before the end of the year.  Cheers, Long and Strong PYR and HPQ !

You can do this over the phone. I have transferred from one trading account to another with a web broker account. It took minutes. You can choose any daily price to make the transfer.

Yes but I'm sure you didn't transfer from a TFSA to an RRSP.

No. It was from a non registered account to tfsa and rrsp.

I should also have mentioned that when you transfer from one TFSA to another TFSA, it doesn't count as a withdrawal from the old TFSA and it doesn't constitute a contribution to the new TFSA.

I don't think you can transfer from one registered non taxable acct to another no taxbale acct.  such as your RRSP., What yo could do is sell from your TFSA and deposit that into a trading acct and then transfer that into your RRSP if you hve the room which you have said you have. you could do all this in one day or a few , better to check with TD if thats who you use or the institution

Go to your broker's website and search from their list of forms the one to transfer from a TFSA to another account. This form should give you the choice to transfer money or stocks. Fill the form as requested and send it by fax. Use ZeroFax for free, it's easy. Your broker will call you to confirm your will and act as directed. I have done this many times over the years.  For

Call TD. Talk to a broker. They will make an inkind transfer for you at current price of security. I've moved securities from TFSA to RRSP and from RRSP to TFSA.
