direct reduced iron production with green hydrogen

green hydrogen from the Iberdrola and H2 Green Steel development will be utilized to generate roughly 2 million tons of direct reduced iron, or DRI, each year, which can then be used to produce (green )steel.

Huge $2.6 billion green hydrogen project planned for Europe

It demonstrates that Other technologies than plasma technology are already being adopted by the iron industry as we speak to produce green iron and green steel .

Yes or no ?

The answer is no. You don't seem to understand what the purpose of the induration process is. It is performed to concentrate the iron ore for efficient shipping of the ore. The only way hydrogen could be involved in this process is if you burned it which would make no sense. As MTM tried to explain to you the exchange of coal for hydrogen is in the actual steelmaking process.

can they use reduced iron directly and feed it to greensteel mills ? that s what they suggest at any rate . no iron pelletization is coming into the equation when they produce that RDI . and that RDI goes directly to stellmaking  i certainly don t understand  but thats what is suggested reading the news . no mention of iron pellets any where . strange you may say

Again you have no desire to know the truth but spread disinformation and FUD.  Copy paste of midtown response he aiready gave you  Incorrect. Because you didn't bother to read any of the background information on this, here are the facts: 1/ Fortescue's ability to deliver "green iron", and "green iron ore" has nothing to do with pelletization or lack ...more

Green hydrogen is used to make green steel, and Hybrit has already delivered a batch of green steel to Volvo for testing.  The hydrogen is made by electrolysis from green electricity.  Plasma torches run directly on electricity so I would think would be simpler and more efficient.  Interestingly, HPQ claims to be acquiring a green hydrogen process, so could be seen as a competitor ...more

Hello Tcheck. What do they do with that hydrgen? Do they use it to produce electricity? If so...they can feed PYR torches. Anyway...using electricity to produce hydrogen by electrolysis (what iberdola is going to do in that plant) to produce electicity again...means loose of energy. Just use that electricity directly. That only makes sense when electricity from the grid can not get to the place ...more

They use hydrogen to reduce the iron oxides .RDI hydrogen instead of co2 generating  coke  pyrogen replaces fuel burning in furnaces  this rdi approach doesn t need a lot of heat i guess no furnaces or less of it . any chemist around ? i really think they are on to something new .

I realize you already know this and are just playing dumb, but the furnaces that reduce the material using hydrogen are part of a steel-making furnace in the steel-making process. PYR has nothing to do with this. PYR's torches will be used way before that, in the pellet making steps that is part of the mining process. Regardless of whether blast furnaces or direct reduction hydrogen-related ...more

You might be right  i am dumb not playing dumb thats too difficult but i found the google answer and it states that RDI even increases the need for pallets . now i got the real answer  This steelmaking method has historically relied on steel scrap as a primary feed, but as the scrap market tightens, producers are turning increasingly to direct-reduced iron (DRI) as an alternate feed ...more
