PZA signs master franchise agreement to expand into Mexico

TORONTO - Pizza Pizza Ltd. has signed a deal that will see the restaurant chain expand into Mexico next year.

 

The company says it has signed a master franchise agreement with Guadalajara-based KSG/GrnCorp.

 

Pizza Pizza chief executive Paul Goddard says KSG/GrnCorp is a long-standing business leader in Mexico, with expertise in restaurants and real estate.

 

KSG will be responsible for developing and growing the restaurants in Mexico.

 

KSG operates Arby’s in Mexico as well as in-house brand Papas Topper.

 

Pizza Pizza has restaurants across Canada under the Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 banners.

What a lousy press release that is!  What are the short, medium and long-term plans for the Mexican market and why should I buy units on the back of it.  Feels like they were compelled to make a release so they said as little as possible.

It will be interesting to see how they compete against Domino's, which is pretty Dominant, at least where I've been.  The key will be the absolutely necessary support of KSG - probably a suicidal move otherwise.

PZA, the Pizza Pizza royalty fund will get 6% of sales off the top. Even if it is a flop I see no downside to this.
