Note from the portfolio manager

who can't keep track of what he owns.

Discovered I still have 1200 shares in Wealthsimple.

Okay, okay, I'll hang onto them!

A meaningful quantity of shares to me is something over 50k. Try to buy 50k with this low volume and see how long it takes. Very risky chances are you'll miss the next leg up.

Yes, but I don't think I ever bought more than 3000 at a time and think I topped out at 19000.  Even at that volume has been an issue buying or selling.

19k is nothing to sneeze at. How long did it take you to buy that without driving share price through the roof? That's the thing that's changed. Any serious buying pushes share price up but it's not difficult to strategically sell without pushing share price down. It takes time and attentive trading though. Like I've said we're in the pay to play mode. I'm guessing you ...more

I'd have to look back at statements but since I was buying in my two traders, as well as my TFSA and RRSP I'd say 3 years at least, buying 1000 - 3000 at a time in the different accounts as cash became available.  I usually try to redeploy profitable sells into 3/4 higher quality/blue chippers and 1/4 into spec plays. I've usually sold some at around 20% profit with rebuys getting ...more

What is going on with GSI? I lived just a few miles from their office for years but never got involved in the stock but had looked at it a few times.

That's way better than finding change in the couch cushions isn't it?  Hang on until at least $10 which will be here by the summer.
Comment by gibbonsj on Mar 20, 2023 12:12pm
$10 by summer sounds like a good call. I was thinking something along the same lines.

Hatrik, gibbonsj, me thinks you two gents are being too conservative. Now that being said, it's a tough call really, depending on what camp you are in. It looks like we are heading into a reccession, some would argue we are already there. Short term, longterm, hard landing, soft landing, who the hell knows, even the so called experts are all over the map. Healthcare stocks should be defensive ...more

It all comes down to the Financials in May and timing of movement to TSX Big Board.  Hopefully they come in close succession and the next quarterly financials meet or beat expectations.  If so, we'll crack $10 sooner than later.  A reminder to all that the full efficiencies of the latest large acquisition will only be half realized with the quarter ending March 31.  The ...more
