Quipt sharing info about anti-obesity meds…

Comment by ValueRider on Apr 24, 2024 9:34am
Are anti-obesity medications such as GLP-1s a possible treatment for obstructive sleep apnea? Positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy remains the most used, most understood, and most successful method for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and has been shown to reduce a patient’s apnea-hypopnea index (AHI)—the number of apnea and hypopnea events experienced per hour—by an ...more

The ability of these drugs to reduce obesity obviously would effect the root cause of most sleep apnea's.. and as mentioned in the article both treatments produce best results used in combination, once the "root" cause has been eliminated, the need for PAP treatment will certainly decreasse over time.. Yes, in general it does improve the situation from what I have read because neck fat puts pressure on the weakened glottal structures - but they are still weak.  And as mentioned, my personal experience doesn't follow that paradigm.  Numerous factors - brain function, smoking, stress all contribute to the condition.
