Acacia SP Surge

For those skeptical on the impact of IP monetization attempts, take a look at ACTG.  ACTG benefits from visibility of teh sector in the USA, something Wilan was never able to achieve.  Through much of 2020, QTRH had a market cap 10% to 20% greater than ACTG.  However, since the late fall, the price of Acacia has almost doubled and ACTG now is +25% vs. QTRH.

This note from RPX points to the reason:

Last year saw publicly traded Acacia Research Corporation amass a sizeable stockpile of patents, with CIO Al Tobia Jr., in a November 2020 earnings call, declaring that Acacia’s “IP team has been hard at work with our four previously acquired portfolios and we are on track to deliver the returns that we anticipated when we acquired these assets earlier this year and late last year”. Here, at the end of January, the company has kicked off the new year with litigation from that stockpile, both R2 Solutions LLC and Stingray IP Solutions LLC launching Acacia’s first new campaigns since last June.

Or maybe Acacia are just better at promoting their company? Think back to the last time you saw Quarterhill promoted. Anywhere. We've been in the wilderness for years and mgmt havent done much that I can see to change it.

Yes it is Wilander.  That's why the refocusing on ITS, a segment of IIoT, rather than the broadened criteria of IIoT/vertical software under Parker's leadership, makes sense. Parker was given fiancial metrics by the BoD, which is their responsibility and his vertical software facination made achieving the financial metrics impossible (had the BoD ageed to alter the financial metrics ...more

cabbieJBJ So ACTG did what ?  Bought some patent portfolios and are hard at work lauching litigation. Big deal. Where's the money? QTRH has been doing that for years now. Why RPX never pointed to them.
