With Ird performing well it’s time to up the dividend

Time to start rewarding the  long share holders that have stayed the course thru thick and thin.

Agreed. But they need that cash for "acquisiotns". Right? And share buybacks.....ummm....right?

Ha ha good one Wilander, where have I heard that song before. Oh yeah right here for the past umpteen years.

I would prefer that they NOT raise the dividend. Quarterhill is the kind of tech story that typically pays no dividend at all. If they're having trouble coming up with (or closing on) compelling acquisition candidates I would argue for them resuming the share buyback. If you believe the shares are fundamentally undervalued then you should prefer share buybacks to dividends because each time ...more

As a share holder for many many years the company share buy back has been nothing more then lip service. Increasing the dividend puts money directly in my pocket.

Here's my wish list for the use of the existing cash (in order of preference): 1.) double the dividend 2.) buy back shares 3.) small tuck-in acquisions 4.) special dividend 5.) major acquisition 6.) major acquisition that requires a debt issuance 7.) major acquisition that requires a share issuance The bottom 3 are more causes for concern in my book than 'preferences'. Right with you there! But we as shareholders have never been a priority.  It has always been "We don;t worry about the SP.  If we do the work the SP will take care of itself.". You can see where that has got us. Lets get back to a nickle a quarter again!  loved those days.  THEN it was worth it.

Wrong ! A healthy div increase will do more for the share price than a 5 - 10  mil share buyback. mrmoribund

Abosolutely....China bonds are mostly 3 percent plus ... So most government bonds are rising and if Quarterhill is to compete then a rise in dividend is necessary with this low volume easily manipulated stock.... no purchases so dead money ion the balance sheet  JMHO

A dividend increase probably WOULD help the stock price short-term but that's only because investors typically associate dividend increases with strengthening operations. But if a dividend increase is done just for the sake of a dividend increase--without improving operations--then it's more of an admission on the part of the company that it can't find better uses for its cash than ...more

mrmoribund Actually, with recently signed LG agreement, a raise of the dividend is probably a small blip on cash flow, imo   We previously saw the higher SP when the dividend was higher and I feel the company can afford it. The share buy backs were not really a big success!

Out of whack high Div yields CAN be an indicator of trouble ahead under most circimstances. Thats because the SP usually drops BEFORE the company gets around to cutting the income stream. In the case of some companies and REITS, they even borrow funds to maintain the payments and suspicious yield. With respect to QTRH, the Div would be sustainable and real as the cash balance and income are there ...more

Dividend increase? Yes! But only 5 to 7%, to show the market the faith in the company's growth, but to not signal a change in the company's focus on a growth orienteering focus. It would be to show confidence, but measured responsibility.
Comment by Justhalffull on Mar 05, 2021 4:20pm
Although monetarily it would not be much, costing them only about $855,000 per quarter, they could increase the dividend to 2 cents per quarter, or 8 cents per year.  That would provide a yield of around 2.8% at today's price.  That should propel the stock over $3.00 easily.

And adding to that the fact that they have ceased the share repurchase program, more evidence that they should reward shareholders with some of the cash they are accumulating, particularly after waiting for over 5 years for nothing.

They could buy Bitcoins... seems to be boosting the multiples of companies lately.
Comment by Justhalffull on Mar 05, 2021 7:12pm
If they had any inclination to buy Bitcoin, and they did not advise sharesholderes in advance, they can expect to be sued to bankruptcy.  I for one would sell immediately should they indicate this desire.
Comment by Capharnaum on Mar 06, 2021 11:58am
Yeah, I was just poking fun at the situation since somehow some companies that have done so have seen their share price explode (well over the cost of said bitcoins).

If I remember correctly, wasn't the div originally 0.10 per share back many years ago. That really helped to solidify our share price as it not only brought in Div Funds, but many other investors too.  No reason they can't do it again. Then, it was chopped in half as the IP landscape changed under the BS America (dis)Invents Act.  We can have some income, ... and lotsa growth ...more
