TEA LEAVES

With Brett Kidd becoming CEO and moving ITC to Texas, it is my view that ETC is in process of  finalizing  the 3 major deals of 100 million previously announced in Q3.   Delivery of those 3 contracts when announced, sealed the signing of  Brett Kidd.to lead our ITS>
We all will be watching for announcement.

I don't think you announce strategic alternatives for WiLan without concluding the Apple situation.  The Bid-ask spread would be too wide. My expectation is that an Apple settlement is next.

Wow. I agree with VG for a change.  This definitely raises the odds Apple will come to agreement before the judges have to rule.

maybe wilan is using the old "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" philiosphy? Might not get the full amount but if the numbers ends up being like $100M all in for a portfolio license, its better than the risk of nothing at all when you are trying to sell the business. i wonder how Apple views this development when they are at the negotiation table?

Won't happen. A) It's not the business Apple is in. B) In any event, any settlement will be less than the price Wilan will fetch.

The vehicle these companies use is RPX.  They pool cash together with multiple infringers and then eliminate the patent litigation risk. I suspect that RPX will be a key party looking at these patents on behalf of their clients. I am guessing that Apple wants a deal that addresses the current litigation as well as clears future risk.  They don't want to pay WiLan, which will lead ...more

I know didly squat about this litigation stuff but always thought it made sense for Apple to just buy Wilan, including the mount Apple owe to Wilan, the cost to Apple of the future litigation from Wilan any thoughts on what price per share we would be looking at?

Interesting perspective aututein. Would that specualtion explain the rushed nature of this news? Having Brett in place to receive the deserved glory for those huge deals as CEO of everything?  In any event, the patent litigation business is tired, been frustrating and nothing like many here had hoped. Too many rule changes and manipulation of the palying field. It will be nice to actually ...more
