ANATOMY OF A SCAMMER/PUMPER/DUMPER - IMHO SOUND FAMILIAR?
YOUR THOUGHTS?:
It starts like this; you buy a penny stock like Sherritt International and take a position.
Then you call everyone you know and start telling everyone how good this company is.
Then you take to the message boards and start a story of how this company will perform.
You go to other message boards and direct them to the most popular one to spread info.
The idea is to increase exposure. I tell 10, then they tell 10, then they tell 10 and so on.
Then you tack on some topical marketing like the product Sherritt sells will be needed to produce something in a new industry that's going to explode onto the world MKTS.
Nothing is looked at logically. People get in on the advice of someone without really looking at reality. People will generally not ask hard questions because they don't like conflict or they don't want to offend another. People WANT to believe the fairytale.
The pumper will then ignore your question if you do decide to ask it, and then try to bamboozle you with exaggerated data and projections which are fantasy...the human mind goes to thoughts of riches (that's the human weakness) unfortunately.
The stock starts to rise on renewed interest. You become hopeful. Then the pumper starts selling his position without you knowing but keeps pushing the stock.
A strong group bond is created. They talk, they chat, they dream, they calculate income.
Anyone who starts injecting reality is ostracized. The pumper gets support from the group because the team wants to stop all realistic data that points to impending losses.
Once the pump starts to fizzle the pumper who's long gone out of stock, starts to decrease communication. It creates some panic on the team but that's usually quelled by excuses of being on vacation or family events, computer problems etc. The distancing starts.
Then to maintain credibility for the next promotion the scammer starts to complain about the very stock that they promoted making it look like they are a victim as well as all the other shareholders on the team.
Woe is me, woe is me! I believed in this company and now they let me down, they lied. What the company did was terrible. I can't believe it. When you point out some of the pumper's inaccuracies because now you are conducting research, they respond with oh, I didn't know that. They must have changed the rules. There's always an excuse.
Then communications become less and less frequent. Everyone takes the loss and awaits the next pump and dump IMHO.
And there you have it.....CAVEAT EMPTOR EVERYONE - know what to look for.
GLTA
PS - next time you get a tip from someone you've been burned by, short the stock immediately on the next tip or if you buy, sell within the 1st 5% gain in that stock. Tell that person how committed you are so they keep you in the loop for the next one.
Unfortunately, it's the wonderful world we live in.
Anyone agree or have their ideas about how the pump & dump works?

You're delusional. Do you seriously believe that most of the traded volume in the stock is traders who follow this message board and act on posters' commentary? Get a grip man... you're losing it.
