When are folks cutting SDE back?// Fauxtomato check for mess

This has been quite the run and it 'appears' that the reduction in stock by Makarov may have been a catalyst.  Anyways...  as the outperformance continues... valuation moves closer to the rest of the pack.

Do you folks have an interim price target for SDE?  I have become extremely overweight SDE and starting to wonder if some moderation would be called for...

All thoughts would be appreciated.

I too have kept adding with Majarov first mention (in the low 8's); and then with the market hicups (low 9's last week). I have to say that I am gong to let this ride for a while yet - maybe re-rate at 12+ - cause everybody keeps adding to their TP almost every month. Also want to see !st Report to firm up gains and see how fast they will be debt low or free (I think Q4 debt very low ...more

I do it on a slow moving relative valuation basis. Slowly trim overvalued picks and move the capital into undervalued picks. Over the course of 3-6 months of SDE lagging it's peers, it turned into my largest weighting. I see it as a "fairvalue" at the moment, so I won't make any hasty decisions. If it starts moving towards $12.00, I'll start slowly trimming it and ...more

I hardly ever post but I want to thank this board. There are not many posts but most are well thought out and provide great information. I am also way overweight SDE despite having said I would never do that again after getting burned with PONY. I think I am going to stay in for the time being (summer time line). The market seems fundamentally under supplied. There also seems to be a realization ...more

Great post - please post more if so inspired. When does Ninepoint come out with new Top 10 line up (for March 31)? It will be interesting. The other thing folks - I want to see how the CDN fed.'s speak about the industry in the Budget Thursday night - watch for Carbon Capture BUT also see if they respond to Biden's call for more CDN Oil/NG this AM. Even if CDN MSM west NEUTRAL on CDN O ...more

DItto. Great analysis. I think short-term 12 gets a wee bit into overbought/valued; but just short-term. Mid-term $12 no problem. TD12

I've been selling on the way up, not because I see better opportunities elsewhere but because it was over 50% of my NAV at times and I've watched too many gains evaporate over the years. Happier to sell too early and let the rest run. Probably done selling for now, my margin has gotten to a manageable level where I can weather a storm. I added some around $8.20 when we had that drop but ...more

Fax - sounds like you are talking about some of my ghosts of the past - BXE; PONY; etc. in the sense of getting blindsided by my own confirmation biase. Good for you to sell along the way - I have cut back some CPG and then got taken out of LXE - so I like you are in a good place portfolio-wise. SO.... the razor's edge of selling is finding another opporunity to replace it. I have found that ...more

I lost a ton of money for me at the time on BXE. Making that back 50x with SDE has been vindicating to say the least, haha! I don't think cash is a valuable asset right now except for the optionality it provides. I was essentially as long as I could get: home equity+brokerage margin since last summer, just to give my selling some context. Sometimes I worry what would happen if I got hit by a ...more

Wow did I sell too early. I think you're right: it's PTSD from having seen gains vaporized in previous meltdowns. The Energy Investing board on IV is almost like a contest to see who has the highest cash levels, and it's been like that for most of this year. That has me cautious on being too far out over my skis: I was at my brokerage credit limit heading into this year and now have a ...more

Faux... It is NEVER to early to take a good profit. Good for you. You can always re-enter SDE whenever you see it as being right for you. I sold lots of SDE at 8.25 at the beginning of Feb. (at a double from last March at 4); then bought back in the high 7's before the war two weeks later; then sold a bunch in the 9.50 range; then bought back some at low's 8 when the Oligarch thing was ...more

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm really good at beating myself up and keep doing the math in my head on how much money I left on the table by selling too early. It's...significant, then there's the taxes due. But, this is the game we play: if I'd been this margined in March 2020 I'd have been wiped out. I'm not a trader either, but the swings lately have me dancing, as ...more

"What scares me is so how dangerously clever I feel" I feel a very similar way but I really can't understand the EV difference between NVA and SDE. If you look at their presentation their Free Cashflow for their two main assets its $375 million at $80 WTI and 3.75 aeco. It's only because they are feeding their develolpment properties that it is being brought down. They could ...more
