Gold didn't hold because it looks like the threat of war might be receding.  Or is the modest Russian withdrawal more a tactical diversion prior to the real event once the Olympics have closed? (Apparently Putin has agreed with Xi not to overshadow the Olympics in Bejing  - they close on the 20th)
