Don't know how hedge work

So we are saying syg predict oil price will be higher in 2018 that what make them go bankrupt on bastion purchase. And now oil is higher and they hedge so the high price of wti does not matter to them? Seem like this company not good with prediction. Is there an end date for hedge.

They only hedged roughly 50% of production to protect themselves, like pretty well every other small cap oil company, no human can fortell the future and if they were not to hedge anything they would be very unwise after dealing with low oil prices, it keeps them floating well above water.
