Recent selling by National was not Short selling

During the one month from March 15 to April 15, National was the largest net seller. At one time they had iceberg orders and capped the share price. Some were speculating that National may be shorting the stock. Based on the short position reports for the period it is very clear that National was not shorting the stock but some with a  long position selling.

During this month the short position actually dropped. In the last 15 days, shorts covered 395355 shares a little fuel to increase in share price. The position was not big anyway. Now the short position has become even smaller. Just 127412 or 1083002 pre consolidation shares left. This could be a trading position of HFT traders like CIBC

The current short position is a tiny fraction of .15% of total outstanding shares. This means there is no money in shorting the stock and can be assumed that it is undervalued at current oil prices.

HFT traders may have intraday or overnight short positions small short positions from time to time.
